Expedition Overview

The VP2VXX team heads to Tortola, British Virgin Islands from October 19–27, 2026. We'll be on the air throughout the week on SSB, CW, and FT8, with the CQ WW SSB Contest weekend at the center of the trip.

Radios

So far, the planned station centers on a FlexRadio Flex-6300 SDR transceiver with a Yaesu FT-710 as backup and secondary rig, running through a 4O3A antenna switching and matching system.

Antennas

The antenna lineup includes a 4O3A system, a BuddiHex for 6–20m, a 40m vertical, and a dedicated VP2 antenna. For low-band work we have an off-center-fed dipole covering 80–10m, an 80m vertical, and a 160m inverted-L. This spread gives us solid options on every band from 160m through 6m.

Leading the VP2VXX Operation

Michael leads the VP2VXX DXpedition as expedition coordinator, handling logistics, operational planning, and team coordination for the 2026 activation.

Michael is a seasoned operator with serious multi-op contest experience under his belt, having operated from top-tier stations including K1LZ, K1RX, NP4Z, and ZP0X. He's no stranger to DXpedition life either. Past activations include Swan Island (K1S), NP2R in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and VP2VRX (BVI, 2025). An active contester and DXpeditioner, he brings the field experience needed to run a smooth, competitive operation in Tortola.

KC1KUG

Technical Coordinator

Brayden is a General Class operator from Farmington, New Hampshire, licensed since 2019. A serious contester from a young age, he's put in time at competitive multi-op stations including K1TTT and has a solid log of ARRL DX, CQ WW, and CQ WPX entries across SSB and CW.

His DXpedition experience includes NP2R (US Virgin Islands, 2024), VP2VRX (BVI, 2025), Alaska (KL7/KC1KUG, 2020), and a remote operator slot on the VP6A Ducie Island DXpedition (2023). He's also a co-organizer of the Worldwide Sideband Activity Contest (WWSAC) and a member of YCCC.

Pilot Station QSL Manager

Seth goes by Mike on the air. He's a 20-year-old operator licensed since May 2022. While he's based in Kingsport, TN, nearly all of his operating is remote from Berkshire County, MA (FN32LL) — with occasional 60m ops from Windham County, CT (FN31). Contesting and DXing are his two biggest interests. Past operations include VP2V/N4XTT and VP2VRX, with J68TT coming up in 2026.

He's a member of CWOps (#3570), SECC, TCG, ETDXA, KARC, and ARRL. For VP2VXX he serves as pilot station and handles all QSL requests.

He's served as pilot station for VP2VRX (2025) and remote operator for PJ6Y (2025), participated in CQ WW SSB (2024 & 2025) and Youth On The Air Month, earned his Volunteer Examiner accreditation in 2025, and gave a ham radio presentation at Mercersburg Academy introducing students to the hobby.
